About the Site
Explore Cornell teaches, promotes, and excites

Many people will tell you that Cornell University is an amazing place in which to study, work, live, and visit. Explore Cornell is a multimedia Web magazine that illustrates the value behind that reputation.

Conceived and created by the Cornell Web Production Group, Explore Cornell offers content in two main formats:

  • Features that highlight leading Cornell University research and instruction efforts, and

  • Tours of the campus, research facilities, and academic units.

The Web site targets a rapidly growing and increasingly tech-savvy constituency of alumni, prospective students, parents, and friends from around the world.

The Explore Cornell Hypothesis

High quality content attracts as it informs. By improving access to the leading work of Cornell faculty and research groups, Explore Cornell serves as a powerful promotional tool for the university and its development efforts, the academic colleges and their departments, and, of course, for the faculty members themselves.

Explore Cornell increases access to high quality content by:

  • Unlocking the information. Many of Cornell's treasures are essentially hidden from all but the most persistent data explorers. This site gives you the keys to Cornell's treasure chest of knowledge.

  • Designing information for the Web. Cornell's Web Production Group uses its award-winning development experience to make concepts, not just data, more accessible. Through solid information design, educators can convey critical ideas to a broad audience of intelligent non-specialists.

  • Connecting to a network of hundreds of millions. Given its potential audience size, the Web is the most powerful outreach tool available.
